The “Journalism” course is meticulously designed to arm aspiring journalists with the essential skills and ethical grounding required to navigate the complex, fast-paced world of media and reporting. This comprehensive program covers a broad spectrum of topics, from the fundamentals of news writing and investigative journalism to multimedia reporting and digital storytelling. Students will be exposed to the critical role journalism plays in society, learning to research, analyze, and deliver news with accuracy, fairness, and integrity. Students will practice interviewing techniques, use of digital media tools, and develop the ability to craft compelling narratives across various platforms. The course also addresses the challenges journalists face in the digital age, including issues of privacy, misinformation, and the importance of upholding ethical standards. Program Objectives:

To provide prospective learners of the Journalism and Media Industries with a body of relevant and current knowledge which will:

    • To equip Learners with the multimedia journalism, communication, reporting and presenting skills, knowledge and understanding necessary to achieve in the domestic and international business environment.
    • To provide an applied balance between employability skills and the knowledge essential for the Learner’s career advancement or academic aspirations.
    • To provide opportunities for Learners to develop the skills, techniques and personal attributes essential for successful working lives within the business industry.

The ICM Diploma in Journalism is also suitable for working journalists, who wish to broaden their skills and knowledge base, and who require appropriate qualifications for career advancement or promotion purposes.

Overview of Knowledge, Understanding and Skills

The Certificate in Journalism is the starting point for Learners with limited knowledge and experience of Journalism. Please note the Diploma is only awarded once the Certificate is completed.
On successful completion of these qualifications, Learners are equipped with a range of skills including, but not limited to:
• Understanding a range of journalism techniques including writing, presenting and gathering information for different multimedia platforms and industries.
• Applying digital production and postproduction technologies to broadcast and online platforms.
• Analysis of the changing nature of social, economic and political relationships between media and society.
• Using different methods and approaches to sub editing.

 

Career Opportunities

These qualifications prepare Learners to undertake a variety of roles in Journalism.
Following successful completion of the qualification, Learners could:
• Seek employment in journalism related roles.
• Go on to further work in specialist journalism areas.
• Further their studies in journalism or a specific business area.

Exams are held online, with a timetable and scope provided by Lecturers. Learners must keep their webcams on for supervision
